LET’S GET READY FOR 2016 COMPETITION…ONWARD TO WASHINGTON DC

“Inclusion: Afro-Latino Partnerships with State and Civil Societies in the Americas”

Historically, United States has ignored the plight of Afro-Latinos, however; various countries within Latin America have taken a fresh approach to these marginalized populations.  What are Latin American countries doing to include Afro-Latinos and other marginalized groups within the state and civil society?  What modalities are being employed to increase economic and political participation and to improve Afro-Latino economic, political, and educational status?  How can these strategies be used in the United States?

“The Art of Social Entrepreneurship”

The areas of social entrepreneurship and corporate social responsibility are booming fields.  Who are the companies and leaders in the social and corporate responsibilities and businesses that focus on “doing good” as part of the core mission?  What has made them successful when others have failed? How do they integrate social giving in their professional endeavors?

“HCBUs: What Does the Future Hold?”

Traditionally, Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HCBUs) have served as lifelines for
African American students seeking higher education.  Yet, because of rapidly declining resources, these institutions are struggling for their very survival.  What steps need to be taken ensure that HCBUs, which played an invaluable and instrumental role in shaping the nation, will be strengthened and positioned to continue that mission in the future.

“Money, Wealth and Financial Empowerment: Building a Personal Financial Literacy Legacy”

It’s time for each of us to focus on establishing a strong financial footprint and building a legacy that endures for future generations.  Who are the leading experts on personal wealth-building and financial management?  What strategies that African American of all ages can be used to enhance and develop a meaningful, working knowledge of personal finance and wealth management? What is the difference between being wealthy and rich?  What are the latest financial management tools that can be leveraged to build wealth?

Lessons From the Top: Celebrating Over 40 Years for Financial Excellence by African Americans.”

In Civil Rights, Medicine, Religion and Sports we have no problem naming and highlighting the accomplishments of African Americans.  What about the Financial Services Industry? Who are the black financial pioneers that have blazed a path for all us today? What were their success strategies and how can we use them today and in the future?

Find your topic and the guidelines for competition in UFSC Oratorical College Topics and Guidelines 2016.  The local competition is TBD in March 2016. Contact Scholarship & Mentoring Chair at scholarship@ufscps.org for details of the competition.
